Gojee.com offers user a curated list of recipe recommendations based on the foods they like and ingredients they currently have. The website offers a fun personality combined with enticing dishes and large images of delicious food. The website takes things a step further by putting together a database of recipes that are created by actual food writers rather than anyone who has a recipe they wish to post online.
Gojee was founded by Mike LaValle and Tian He. The application was designed to offer internet users a personalized way to obtain delicious recipes that are professionally created. The site has seen a tremendous amount of growth, with approximately 50,000 users signed up over a tend day period in July 2011. That success has come after a great deal of effort. The current Gojee is actually the third version of the application. The initial version was not nearly as user friendly and became a failure that helped contribute to the success of the recent reincarnation of the application.
In June 2012, it was announced that Gojee had raised a first venture round of $2.8 million from InterWest Partners.
There is quite a lot to love about Gojee. The application offers a collection of enticing recipes that were created by food writers, rather than anyone and everyone. Users can provide a list of ingredients that they currently have and Gojee will apply that information to its recommendations. Consumers who shop the D’Agostino grocery store chain can benefit even more by providing their shopper loyalty card information. Gojee will automatically gather information from their purchase history.
Despite the lack of text, it is easy to pick up on the theme of the Gojee website as soon as a newcomer arrives. The homepage features large, up close images of elegant dishes that range from muffins to international cuisine. The center of the page invites the user to sign up. After logging in, the user is still taunted by close up food images that cover the entire profile background. The top of the page includes a navigation bar that allows the user to find their favorites, dislikes, ingredient lists and a bar that lets users add more ingredients to their profile.
A new user can create a Gojee account by clicking the green “Get Cookin’” button near the center of the homepage. The form appears on the following page which asks for the user’s email address and password. A playful note at the bottom of the form reassures the user that the site swears “on your mother’s cookbooks” that they will not spam users. After filling out the form, the user can click the green “Sign Up” button just below it. The user is automatically logged in after submitting their information.
Gojee is available to all users for free. There are no subscription fees or other charges required to use the website. The user only has to supply a valid email address and password to access an account. The user can search for recipes and add ingredients as often as they like. The site is relatively new but does not mention adding premium content or a fee later on.
Gojee is an excellent resource for anyone who would like to find delicious dishes that they can actually make. The focus on the user’s food preferences and on hand ingredients makes Gojee perfect for anyone who loves to cook. Some of the recipes are very exotic, making them a better choice for those who enjoy cooking rather than those who are looking for a quick meal.
